KOLKATA, JUNE 1:  The night running of trains, mainly freight trains, on the 450-km long Kirandul-Kottavalasa (K-K) line has remained suspended for the past few days following a Maoist threat and intelligence reports, according to East Coast Railway sources.

As a result, no trains are running on the route between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., the sources point out.

“The restriction on night running of trains on the K-K Line will be in force till June 8”, the sources observe adding, “the extension of the restriction, if any, will depend on the intelligence inputs”.

The K-K Line is used mainly for transportation of iron ore from NMDC's mines at Bailadila in Chhattisgarh to Visakhapatnam partly to meet the requirement of Vizag Steel Plant and other steel and sponge-iron producers in the area and partly for exports through Visakhapatnam port.

Right now, following night restriction, about 11-12 rakes are moving on the route against 15-16 in normal situation.
